NAS come cloud storage personale

Difference between Desktop edition and RAID (Enterprise) edition drives
http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1397
If you install and use a desktop edition hard drive connected to a RAID controller, the drive may not work correctly. This is caused by the normal error recovery procedure that a desktop edition hard drive uses.

When an error is found on a desktop edition hard drive, the drive will enter into a deep recovery cycle to attempt to repair the error, recover the data from the problematic area, and then reallocate a dedicated area to replace the problematic area. This process can take up to 2 minutes depending on the severity of the issue. Most RAID controllers allow a very short amount of time for a hard drive to recover from an error. If a hard drive takes too long to complete this process, the drive will be dropped from the RAID array.

Most RAID controllers allow from 7 to 15 seconds for error recovery before dropping a hard drive from an array.

A detta dello stesso produttore <<you may realize up to $10 savings per drive per year in electricity costs(U.S.)>>.

Immagine
The system has 1GB of 800mhz DDR 2 RAM installed and can accept 2GB more via an expansion slot, offering a total of 3GB of ram. There is a dual core D525 Intel Atom processor installed which runs at 1.8ghz. There is a plastic layer isolating the motherboard from the side panel.

The motherboard is based around the Intel ICH6 southbridge with a 128MB flash module attached for caching and there is a ITE IT871820F controller for interface operations. A Silicon image SiL3132 SATAlink PCI Express to 2-port Serial ATA II Host controller deal with the eSATA interface. Two Intel 82574L gigabit ethernet controllers handle the throughput.

Without question the Synology DS1511+ is the fastest NAS we have tested to date. Performance via single link is class leading outperforming the DS1010+, and when correctly configured into 802.3ad dynamic link aggregation mode, throughput enters into a completely new performance zone.

Within a well configured small to medium sized business, this product is going to redefine networking capabilities, offering not only class leading performance, but a wide range of settings to the IT department. With 512 concurrent connections and the ability to expand storage to 45 Terrabytes (with two optional DX510′s) it may very well find a home in larger corporations who don’t need the ultimate configuration demands of a CISCO custom built unit (often with a five figure price tag).

The DS1511+ has literally blown us away, no matter the demands we placed on the system, it never failed to deliver. The DS1010+ was an astounding product, but this latest upgrade pushes Synology further away from their competitors. The latest Diskstation multitaking operating system is easily the best on the market, offering a low overhead, inituitive interface with settings to cover both home and business markets.

We have said it before, however we really do wish that Synology would opt for metal drive bays. They also need to add the ability to lock the drive bays with a security key system. This could be a potential issue for some business clients.

A system with such diversity and outright performance could be expected to cost in excess of £1,000, but amazingly Yoyotech are offering the DS1511+ for £645 including VAT, in the United Kingdom. Obviously you have to add the cost of the drives to the final price, but everything considered this is still a bargain.

Molto interessante anche questa soluzione integrata: Thecus N4800

http://www.macitynet.it/macity/articolo ... MI/aA57383
