...In assoluto il Miglior Hitchcock d'annata (insieme a "THE 39 STEPS") del periodo Inglese del Maestro, a mio avviso di molto superiore rispetto al Remake (che in ogni caso è ottimo, anche se troppo "Politically Correct") , sia per le atmosfere e per il set (una fatica enorme per l'Epoca) che per lo Splendio B/N , con un Peter Lorre sublime .
...L'Opera risplende finalmente di nuova luce , grazie ad un complicatissimo e dispendioso Restauro , e quì da noi in EUROPA è un'anteprima assoluta , poichè abbiamo questo splendido Master Restaurato Trasferito magnificamente in BD, un BD assolutamente ITALIANO, e questo grazie al Miracoloso STUDIO 4K .

Alfred Hitchcock's original 1934 The Man Who Knew Too Much is one of those titles.

Around 2006 I supplied them with an original nitrate 35mm print that had been struck directly from the camera negative. Great full sound (for 1934), and an image that portrayed the negative for what it was at that time -- well-printed. Minus density dirt was the norm, along with occasional tears in the original printed through. Every other reel had a cut through scratch at the far left of the frame, that would have necessitated a great deal of hand painting to eliminate.

So they waited.

And finally, with access to an original lavender at the BFI, they began testing. 2k scans of the lavender on a pin-registered scanner, which looked very nice. But it was found that the element was too shrunken to go through safely.

So they waited.

They tested printing the lavender to a dupe neg, but the result wasn't as good as the earlier scans.

So they waited.

And finally, the BFI installed a wet-gate scanner with pin registration or sprockets, and the project moved forward.

The final result, as color corrected and digitally cleaned is quite superb. The main title sequence is a bit soft, and actually to my eye, looks to be a dupe, but it is what it is. Get into the body of the film, and things look and sound great. A very nice gray scale is in place, with quality black levels. The image is quite steady, and overall pleasing.


A great classic British Hitchcock production that should be in every serious collection.

...Avevo in mente di scrivere anche in questo caso un'analisi elaborata , ma poi mi sono detto che quì c'è poco da "elaborare", poichè la questione è molto semplice, io oramai davvero non mi stupisco più di nulla (in positivo ovviamente) riguardo a questa Straordinaria Label, e dato che come si dice, un'immagine vale più di mille parole...:





...In poche parole, abbiamo anche in questo caso , "L'uomo che sapeva Troppo" in BD, con l'ultimo e splendido nuovo Master utilizzato dalla Criterion per la loro recente edizione .

...E quindi nello specifico, una bella traccia audio Originale Inglese in LPCM 2.0 Stereo, che viaggia a circa 1,6 Mbps, più altre due tracce in Inglese ed in Italiano , in semplice e buono DD .

...Riguardo gli Extra, ne abbiamo uno molto interessante proveniente sempre dall'Edizione Criterion, ossia...:

Hitchcock Illustrato, an extensive interview with director Alfred Hitchcock from 1972, conducted by journalist Pia Lindstrom and film historian William K. Everson , della durata di 49:48 minuti circa .


...Inoltre, vi dico che senza alcun ombra di dubbio, abbiamo in questo BD probabilmente il miglior Transfer di un'Opera molto "datata" che si sia mai visto nel nostro mercato, questo BD ha un Bitrate medio altissimo (complice anche la durata dell'Opera), che è davvero STUPEFACENTE, guardate quì...:
...ed è praticamente quasi sempre stabile, davvero un'Encoding Eccellente ! .
...In assoluto la migliore (insieme a LIFEBOAT) e più importante Opera del Maestro Hitchcock presentata in BD dallo STUDIO 4K fino ad ora ! .

Ho riguardato il film, questa volta nello splendido blu ray giustamente lodato da Jesse. Contrariamente a lui, continuo a ritenere migliore il remake, ma è una questione puramente personale.
Segnalo però che l'extra, l'intervista condotta da Pia Lindstrom e William Everson, è la stessa che si è già vista nel BD de "La finestra sul cortile", in quest'ultimo caso accorciata di un quarto d'ora, perché mancano l'introduzione del conduttore televisivo, la sigla finale e i vari spezzoni dei film di Hitchcock mostrati a scopo esemplificativo.

Segnalo che della versione Studio 4K se ne trova ancora qualche copia su Amazon ad un prezzo stracciato.
