Warner to Release Be Kind Rewind Blu-ray a Week Before DVD

Warner Bros. Warner Home Video has revealed that they will bring the Jack Black and Mos Def comedy 'Be Kind Rewind' to Blu-ray on June 10th, a full week before the DVD release. This will be the first time any major studio makes the Blu-ray release available prior to the DVD release, providing an interesting experiment to see how consumers react to only seeing the Blu-ray version on store shelves.
The DVD release was initially scheduled for June 10th, but updated information from the studio now indicates an availability date of June 17th. No word if this was done intentionally, or if production problems caused the delay.
Video will be presented in 2.35:1 1080p VC-1 on a BD-25. No audio specs have been announced at this time. Extras, while not currently announced, will most likely mirror the DVD release.

Tartan is reducing BD production expenses by sharing promotional responsibilities and packaging design between its U.S. and U.K. outposts. The supplier already feels successful in its BD operations. Its single BD title, Oldboy, is currently Tartan’s top-selling release, trumping the company’s entire standard DVD product line.
Going forward with one high-def format will ultimately prove advantageous for indies, believes Tartan Video president Tony Borg.
“Starting in the new year, as HD DVD was dying, there was less clutter, and the Oldboy version began outselling its standard DVD version,” Borg says. “The quality of our films, the production values, will be transferring very nicely to high-def.”

C'è poi anche la notizia, non più freschissima in verità, delle vendite BD che nel primo trimestre 2008 sono aumentate del 351% rispetto allo stesso periodo del 2007 ( link).
avevo letto la cosa ! 351% non e' affatto male ! Vediamo adesso che scende in campo Universal con una bella scorpacciata di titoli !
Se negli states va bene ... di riflesso andra' bene pure da noi , anceh se con il canonico ritardo di un anno !

beh è chiaro che molti dei pezzi grossi non li hanno ancora messi in gioco, sia per fare esperienza con titoli meno importanti sia per aspettare una maggiore diffusione dei lettori e quindi maggiori vendite.
comunque in mezzo ad una valanga di cavolate ci sono anche dei bei titoli.

Non e' una ideologia ... e' normale avere titoli pessimi nei catalogi ! E forse e' meglio cosi' ; altrimenti ci toccherebbe comprarli tutti !

Lost, Grey's Anatomy Head to Blu-ray

Walt Disney Pictures Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has revealed that they plan to bring the fourth seasons of both "Lost" and "Grey's Anatomy" to Blu-ray this year. First up with be 'Grey's Anatomy: The Complete Fourth Season—Expanded', which is set to debut on September 9th, day-and-date with the DVD release. It will feature not only a "beefed up" version of the "Forever Young" episode, but also audio commentary from executive producer/director Rob Corn.
Following three months later on December 9th will be 'Lost: The Complete Fourth Season—The Expanded Experience' which will also debut on the same day as the DVD. This set will include bonus featurettes and hints to unlock the plot of the series.
Lori MacPherson, Disney's general manager of North America commented, "Grey's and Lost are our biggest TV on DVD sellers year over year. They have a broad audience base for Blu-ray. It's still too early to take all our shows and put them on Blu-ray, but we are proceeding slowly and steadily."

Con il mio post non voglio di certo criticare l'avvendo dell'alta definizione, a tutt'ora ho acquistato una trentina di BR, intendevo commentare il fatto che il BR al momento ha il solo 6% del mercato, visti i titoli usciti e il catalogo ancora molto scarno a mio avviso è già un buon segnale, è ovvio che per affermarsi come formato vi è necessità di Hardware a prezzi più umani(e qui possiamo parlarne all'infinito) ma anche qualche bel titolone in + non guasterebbe!!

Sull'hardware ti do ragione ! I lettori standalone sono troppo lenti e s bloccano ! Ptrebbero essere il vereo punto d'achille del formato !
Ma se hanno fatto la ps3 , vuoi vedere che non riescono a fare un lettore standalone decente ? La gente compra quelli ... quando diventera' di massa !

Internationally, The Spiderwick Chronicles will be followed by Cloverfield and the Academy award-winner for Best Picture, No Country for Old Men beginning in August.

The Spiderwick Chronicles launches PHE's day-and-date new release strategy. Based on the best-selling series of books, The Spiderwick Chronicles takes viewers on a fantastical journey into the unseen world all around us and the Blu-ray disc will include behind-the-scenes featurettes, an exploration of the Spiderwick world, an exclusive peek inside Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide and much more.
PHE's 2008 Blu-ray titles debut on May 20 in the U.S. with two sensational action-adventures: a Special Collector's Edition of Face/Off , the mind-blowing crime-drama starring John Travolta and Nicolas Cage, with special features such as multiple commentaries, deleted scenes, an alternate ending, the Making Of Face/Off and more; and the sci-fi thriller Next , which stars Nicolas Cage, Julianne Moore and Jessica Biel in an adaptation of a Philip K. Following the initial wave of titles, Producer J.J. Abrams' monster hit, Cloverfield, arrives on Blu-ray on June 3. Earning over $166 million in worldwide box office to date, Cloverfield thrilled critics and audiences alike with its shocking, first-person video account of a horrifying attack on Manhattan by an unknown -- and seemingly unstoppable -- force. The Cloverfield Blu-ray will include an exclusive feature-length "Special Investigation Mode" with added details about the film. tra l'altro se non erro paramount produce br region free . ne possiedo uno solo americano prima del passaggio ad agosto ad hd-dvd . "Disturbia" ed e' region free ! Non sarebbe male come cosa . A sto punti resterebbe solo la fox con i blocchi regionali !
Siamo sempre li , al momento questo e' il trend del bluray ... un buon 6% .
Spero viamente che arrivi ad un 15% a fine anno , cosa non impossibile , vista la mole di titoli in uscita , e paramount e univerasal che daranno il loro bel aiutino !

Sicuramente questo 6% è una percentuale più che soddisfacente per il momento.
Il 15% a fine anno è un obiettivo molto ambizioso, secondo me dovremo essere contenti se se arriverà stabilmente intorno al 10%.

Questo dopo che avranno venduto un tot di ps3 e un tot di lettori bluray standalone , vero tallone d'achille del formato !
aggiungo e si sa che qui in italia siamo ancora una nicchia , anche se la nicchia si sta ben nutrendo !

Detto fatto ... i miei BR nonescono di casa perche' tanti non li possono vedere , mentre con i DVD ne prestavo a valanga , e spesso mi tornavano indietro con le digipack sporcate , dischi strisciati ! ...
Almeno per ora ... posso guatarmeli solo io !
E ... di titoli incominciano ad uscirne sempre di piu' mese dopo mese !
Se non ci fosse qualcuno che li compra ... il mercato non proporrebbe titoli in BR ! Significa che c'e' richiesta ... ancora limitata , ma c'e' !
In italia un'altro pro e' che non c'e' stata la concorrenza di hd-dvd , e questo non ha generato confusione . Solo chi sapeva ha magari aspettato il vincitore per comprarsi la ps3 o il player standalone !
Tra l'altro il successo della ps3 come lettore bluray apre il mercato ... se la vogliamo vedere con piu' angolazioni ... ad un nuovo tipo di utente . L'utente da Mediacenter se volgiamo definirlo cosi' !
Gaurda i BR , ma usa la ps3 per i giochi , internet ... scaricare materiale e foto su HDD , eccetera !
La cosa se ben sfruttata da Sony puo' traghettare tra degli anni verso il famigerato digital download !
Effettivamente in casa con la ps3 abbiamo un piccolo mediacenter !

Prestare dvd?
All'inizio anch'io prestai un paio di titoli a qualche amico, ma mai con la custodia, sempre alloggiati momentaneamente in custodie per cd!
... Gli studios incominciano a premere sull'accelleratore !
